Rescue Mission Pt. 1.

Well wasn’t that exciting.

Maybe exciting is the wrong word… Terrifying, dangerous, confusing, exhausting with a dash of thrilling and a big dollop of WTF!!

There aren’t really enough words in my vocabulary to explain how crazy this particular mission was.

At least for once my part amounted to more than sitting in a van or motel room wearing a headset and eating crisps. (Then being asked not to eat crisps by everyone on comms)

Yep this time I got to be involved in the actual mission. Although on the down side, I did get shot. (Which, as far as downsides go is pretty big.)

My role was pretty simple actually. While the other teams perform targeted strikes on different areas of the enemy headquarters, I use my invisibility so that me and an actual agent (that would be Katie) can move through the building unnoticed and find Michael, set him free, escape, go home, eat cake, the end.

Hmmm, not so much.

We found Michael pretty easily actually. (Although, making both of us invisible felt like running a marathon) But Katie had plans other than just getting far away from there. She gave the extra goggles to Michael and told me to take him out while she needed to “take care of something.” I was expecting Michael to be confused, I was expecting him to argue even. I wasn’t expecting him to say. “You think am going to just walk away while you go kill Eli?”

I think the word Americans use in these kinds of situations is… Busted!

They continued to argue for a few minutes, (cause we of course had nothing but time at this point) before Katie shoved the goggles back into his hands telling him she loved him and that she had to do this. The she was gone.

Not invisible gone, that would be weird; I mean that’s my power. She flew away, literally, cause that’s, you know, what she does.

Michael and I (did I get the grammar right there?) were almost out of the building. Free and clear (so close) when who should we spot but Eli.

Okay, not we, Michael spotted him. I’ve never seen Eli in person before and have only a vague idea what he actually looks like. What happened was that I felt Michael pull back and he then pointed at Eli then mimed mind-controlling powers... badly. (My first guess going off his mime would have been “eyebrow-spider”.)

Still we followed him for a while till he got to a meeting room where the big scary Russian and Daniel were waiting, along with Helena (looking beautiful as ever, I need help.)

We watched while they greeted their leader and urgently discussed an exit strategy from the current attack. I’ve never been that close to that evil a person before. You could feel it just looking at him. I could see Michael scanning the room, only half paying attention to what was being said. (He was looking for Katie.) We were taken by surprise when the Russian pulled out a dart gun and shot Daniel in the back. (!)

I thought it was maybe a tranquiliser, but he wasn’t knocked out. He turned round fast and held his hand up… Nothing happened. Daniel turned to Eli, looking unsurprised and a little uneasy. He said, “How long have you known.” (Oh no what’s wrong Daniel caught being bad with no powers to help you? Aww how sad… what? He’s a total arse.)

Eli walked toward him saying “It doesn’t matter now.” He grabbed Daniel by the head (like in those gangster movies) and said to him “You are nobody, do you understand, you’re nobody!” He released him and Daniel staggered backwards. I’ve never seen that look on his face. He looked confused, upset and even vulnerable. (It was truly unsettling.)

Then Eli turned into the middle of the room and said in the type of voice you use when you want someone in another room to hear you. “If you don’t show yourself right now I’m going to seal the room and my Russian friend here is going to have a little fire party… just you and him.”

Michael and I were frozen to the spot. Did we trip an alarm, make a noise, is there an infrared sensor?

Just as I was about to give us up. (Which was almost a relief I was becoming so exhausted.) Eli smiled and said “Hello there… I don’t think I caught your name. I heard you have been wanting to see me.”

We turned to see Katie standing a few feet away in the middle of the room.

To Be Continued.
