I finally managed to talk with Katie.
I had a whole bunch of questions for her. I wanted to be subtle. To pry answers out of her without showing I was suspicious. (Unfortunately subtlety is not my strong suit.) She opened the door and I said, (perhaps a bit too loud considering the circumstances) “Daniel wants me to give you a message!” (Yes, very inconspicuous Lee. Well done.)
Her face went white and she was almost inaudible when she said, “Lee, you want to come inside for a second?” I went in and we had a very long chat about what happened last weekend. She was really upset about it and kept asking if I was okay. (I’m fine apart for the whole, fearing for my family’s safety thing.) I told her I wasn’t going to tell her what he said until she explained why Daniel wanted to give her this message. So she did.
She explained that after George died she kept blaming herself, until she realized that it wasn’t her fault…
…it was Eli’s.
He was the one who brainwashed him and sent him to kill us all. She decided that she would return the favor and kill him herself. (Something she wouldn’t be allowed to do with our agency.) So she quit and started going after him on her own. (Yep that sounds like a well thought out and level headed choice.) She had been all over the world hunting him down and during her little crusade she had discovered not only that Daniel planned to take down Eli so his second in command could take over, she also found where they stored the package that was stolen from our vault. (Our people only knew that it was some kind of drug that does who knows what.”)
That’s when I said. “I do.” She looked confused so I clarified. “I know what it does. That was the message.” She waited for me to tell her but I wasn’t ready yet there was still one thing I wanted to know. “Does anyone else know what you’re doing?” She saw right through me and asked. “You mean does Michael know what I’m doing.” (Bugger she’s too pretty to be this smart, it’s just not fair.) She continued, “No he doesn’t and you have to promise me you won’t tell him. Not yet, I’m so close.” I knew that what she was close to was murdering someone (Granted an evil murdering super villain.) and I didn’t want to help her do that but I could see the anguish and grief still as fresh was when she pulled the trigger and ended Georges life.
I agreed.
And then I told her. I told her what Daniel had told me, that the drug taken from the vault was the only way to stop Eli. The only weapon against him. It robs a person with a power of their ability for 12 hours. For 12 hours, they’re just a normal person; he’s just a normal person.
And then you can kill him.
