I left off in the corridor confronted by Daniel. The alarm still wailing so loud he had to shout over it. “I suppose you think you’re clever.” I shouted back “As a rule no, but this time I think I did okay.” He just smiled that annoying know-it-all smile back at me and said. “You think they’re going home, or are they outside waiting for you? Maybe waiting for me.” I felt ill. All I had cared about was getting them out of the building, but that didn’t matter. He broke my train of thought, “Don’t worry I’m not going to kill them.”
My relief was slightly tainted by one thought but like always it was as if he could hear what I was thinking and responded “I’m not going to kill you either Friday, not today.” (Anyone who thought I was alive because I escaped, Hi I’m Lee I’m incompetent remember.)
He took me out a side door so we where outside. I asked why he was letting me live and he said he wanted me to deliver a message.
“You remember the night in your flat.” I knew immediately what he was talking about. “The night I found out you were a lying snake?” He smiled (Prick) and continued, “Something was stolen that night.” (I remembered waking up in the medical wing they told me about the robbery in the vault, it was the reason he’d taken my card.) I said I remembered but that they didn’t tell me what was taken. He said, “That’s because they don’t know what it is.” He said he was going to tell me what it was, what it’s for. I asked why anyone where I work would believe anything he had to say. He responded that the message wasn’t for them he said, “This is for the blonde.”
I couldn’t find the words to say, there were so many questions popping into my head it was like lots of little fireworks. I tried to verbalise, “Katie!? How did you know she doesn’t, why are you, what does she have to do with, I don’t understand.”
He interrupted my unintelligible drivel “There’s a lot she isn’t telling you Friday, trust me.”
(Ha! Trust you, two-faced lying prick! Maybe I shouldn’t have said that part out loud.)
He just smiled again, leaned in and whispered the message. When he was done I couldn’t talk, I just looked at him, unable to believe he could be telling the truth. He straightened up and said “You should go, your companions will be worried about you.”
He looked like he was about to go when he quickly turned back like he’d forgotten something. “Oh and one more thing.” I felt a sharp pain on my cheek my hand flew up to protect it and I felt something warm. When I pulled my hand away there was a little blood, a small cut had appeared on my face. (Aaaoooowww!) He walked away shouting behind him “That’s for the knee earlier, the slap… well that, we’ll discuss later.”
Then he was gone.
I got everyone home and had to call work, they pulled me in and I went through everything…
…except the message, I didn’t tell them about that. I said I’d pulled the fire alarm and escaped. I know it’s stupid and I don’t trust that prick but it’s not like they’d believe him or do anything about it and I have to talk to Katie first.
I arranged to go to her flat tomorrow after work. I’m hoping she can give me some answers.
Speaking of answers, the message Daniel gave me. What was the message?
That I’m afraid, will have to wait, I need to speak to Katie first, find out what’s going on.
Night.
